October 22, 2019: Indigenous Bridges has issued a call for entries to the first annual Indigenous Arts Exchange Festival, taking place during the summer of 2020. Indigenous Bridges is the name of the series of programs organized by the ATAYAL organization, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization committed to preserving indigenous cultures and empowering aboriginal peoples around the globe. At the festival, there will be fundraising efforts to support the mission of the organization, and opportunities to allow new ideas and unheard voices to shine through.

The festival will be open to filmmakers, live performers and lecturers who want to share their work with participants in an environment that will encourage cooperation and mutual understanding.

“Exchanging short films from different participating indigenous groups creates a great opportunity for a dialogue to promote understanding of each other’s shared struggles and shared growth over adversity,” says Gerald A. Santos, Director of Indigenous Media Exchange for Indigenous Bridges since summer, 2019. “I would like to ask for participants to join the inter-tribal exchange of dialogue to build strong bridges of communication and unity in these shared struggles, and in the fight for preserving a way of life.”

Future events organized by Santos will include an arts and photo exhibition, a movie night, and an indigenous nonprofit exchange celebration.

“The exchange of media and the arts is a great tool in uniting different communities that have a strong artistic heritage,” says Santos. “I hope we can make these events annual, as part of a bigger coalition effort for indigenous cultural exchange.”
